Interesting news in the Wii homebrew/hacking scene. It appears as if the Virtual Console games from the Wii Shop Channel have been decrypted and revealed as simple ROMs with HTML help files. Each game also comes with its own emulator included in the game WAD file. There is some concern within the scene that this might result in tighter security by Nintendo in terms of newer security patches and updates. It could result in a higher level of difficulty for those interested in customizing their Wii, however Nintendo has yet to release an official statement, so there is no telling what direction they could go with this.
It is 2008 and video game technology is expanding at a monstrous pace, however there are those of us that still need to get the same feeling we did back in 1993. But who really wants to have 4 different gaming consoles and the hassle of having to pull the TV out and fiddle with the A/V connectors every time you want to switch between them? Not I. Fortunately, the aptly named "Super Genintari" provides a quick and easy solution. This gigantic console combines the ATARI 2600, NES, SNES, and the Sega Genesis in one amazing unit. The backlit Pac-Man is the on/off switch, and the toggling buttons allow you to switch easily from one vintage gaming system to the other without the mess of rewiring every time. It has ports for all the various controllers easily accessible on its front, and is all wrapped up in an amusingly retro-esque console. What could be better for the enthusiastic vintage gamer than switching from ATARI's Frogger to the SNES Mario Kart with the ease of pushing a single button? Sign me up! Please take this opportunity to check out the videos and pictures, and see for yourself how delightful this console is for the serious vintage gamer!
Everyone who plays video games knows Castlevania. The series is one of Konami's most famous & memorable. It has seen titles on almost every game system & almost every SNES enthusiast has there personal favorite Castlevania game. For me it is definitely Super Castlevania IV. Everything about this game is highly addictive. When I was younger this was one of the games that I really got into on Super Nintendo after it was released, and it is still one of my favorite all-time games today. The levels are immensly fun and creative. The music is also really cool !!
After confirming earlier on this month that Wii Fit would be weighing into Europe on April 25, Nintendo has confirmed today that the software (bundled with the Wii Balance Board accessory) will cost £69.99 GBP in the United Kingdom and EUR €89.99 across the rest of Europe.
The Wii Balance Board, which arrives packaged with every copy of the game. It senses weight and shift in balance in any direction and therefore by standing on the Wii Balance Board during activities allows players to follow along to movements ensuring they have full control of the on-screen activities. This allows personal improvement goals to be set to effectively help you and your family to train and stay fit.
Wii Fit allows up to eight players to track the progress of their fitness over time via the Wii Fit Channel. Once the Wii Fit Channel is added it enables users to not have to insert the Wii Fit Disc into the console in order for the Wii Balance Board to scale your weight to calculate your BMI, measure the centre of your bodily balance, check how long you have been exercising for, and conduct a balance test in order to calculate your Wii Fit Age.
Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime recently claimed that Wii Fit would arrive in America priced at under $100 USD. At the current exchange rate, that means UK and Europeans will be paying the equivalent of around $139 USD and $136 USD respectively. Hardly seems like a fair deal, but after so many years of being charged higher prices for games and accessories, it should hardly come as a surprise.
Every gamer worth his or her salt really needs to know which gaming icon was originally going to be an armadillo, who the severed heads in the Pit in Mortal Kombat resemble, and which game Swedish pop band The Cardigans' song "My Favourite Game" is about.
These golden nuggets of gaming trivia are among many more revealed in the Guinness World Records Gamer's Edition, due for release on February 8 in the UK and March 11 in the US. The Gamer's Edition is the first of its kind, an offshoot from the Guinness World Records series, an annual compilation of facts and figures, including the fastest time to eat a 12-inch pizza, most sheep shorn in eight hours, and the location of the largest collection of aeroplane sick bags. In keeping with Guinness tradition, the Gamer's Edition of its record book compiles similarly obscure (and often humorous) factoids. A semirandom sampling is listed below:
The Super Mario franchise is the best-selling game series of all time, having sold a total of 145 million units worldwide.
As of November 2007, 466 million Xbox 360 achievements had been unlocked since the service launched, putting the combined global gamerscore at 11 billion.
A CRAZY VIDEO GAME collector has forked out over twelve
hundred Benjamins for a sealed copy of Chrono Trigger on the SNES, via
auctions site Ebay.
Quite what possesses someone to buy a video game and then leave it sealed on
a shelf for more than a decade we're not sure, but the chap must certainly be
glad now. He's also making a quids in, charging $7 for shipping on top of the
$1,231 final sale price. Cheap, much?
Chrono Trigger is one of the big boys of the old-school RPG class, being made
by Square software, better known for their work on Final Fantasy - to which
Chrono was a spinoff. It was considered revolutionary at the time, as Wikipedia
