The success of the Final Fantasy franchise is unprecedented; the games have featured on almost every major platform around in the past 10 years, including both the NES and SNES.

Fusajiro Yamauchi founded Nintendo Koppai and started to sell playing cards called “President”. Every card was made from the bark of mulberry trees.

The “President” cards had a total of 48 cards including 12 different suits, each suit corresponding to a month and a symbol e.g. pictures of wind and of deer.

SEIKEN DENSETSU
Seiken Densetsu is one of many successful gaming series from the Japanese market which have been embraced by the gaming community. This role-playing game (RPG) is distributed by Square Enix having been created by Koichi Ishii.

The direct translation for Seiken Densetsu is “Holy Sword Legend” which just about sums up this all action RPG which has spawned many copycat games since it was introduced to the market in 1991.

Sonic the Hedgehog
The Sonic adventures started out in 1991 when Sonic the Hedgehog was released for the Sega Mega Drive/ Genesis.  The developers of the series were called the Sonic Team. The main developer of the first game was Yuji Naka, who later became the head of the Sonic Team division. The game planner for this game was, Hirokazu Yasuhara.

STI (Sega Technical Institute) wanted to develop a “true” Sonic game for the Saturn called Sonic X-Treme. Their main competition was Nintendo’s Super Mario 64.

The Mario Brothers are a household name. Everyone from young to old has heard of this dynamic duo whether it be from playing the games themselves or from the publicity the games of the Mario series receive.

However, it wasn’t always like this. Mario had to start somewhere, and this was in the arcade version of Donkey Kong in 1981.

The Legend of Zelda
The Legend Of Zelda series has been one of the most popular consoles games of recent times, with many different additions released since the original “The Legend Of Zelda” in 1987. The game is produced by awarding winning games designer Shigeru Miyamoto.

Miyamoto based the game on his experiences in the surrounding hills of his Kyoto home town with its forests, lakes and caves which gave him great adventures as a boy.
