The user describes the process of
buying Wii points as "utterly painless", he does however
show a certain level of dismay at having to shell out his money to
purchase the games. This is certainly good to know, as I was a little
worried Nintendo wouldn't be able to keep the system simple to use,
because of how complicated it is.
He is not entirely happy with the
system though. He found that when he ran the games on a wide screen
tv, the aspect ratio would be stretched to fit the screen. Requiring
him to manually change it back, which as you can imagine, could get
very annoying. He was also unhappy with the lack of TurboGrafx games
on launch, although I hardly think that will be a view held by many.
I myself can say I am slightly disappointed with the virtual
console games available from the launch. As announced the system has
launched with twelve games:
Donkey Kong (NES)
Legend of Zelda (NES)
Mario Bros. (NES)
Soccer (NES)
Pinball (NES)
Wario's Woods (NES)
Solomon's Key (NES)
F-Zero (SNES)
Sim City (SNES)
Altered Beast (GEN)
Sonic (GEN)
Super Mario 64 (64)
There are a few classics there such as Super Mario 64, but some
titles on that list, I have to wander as to why they have been
included in the first place. I do not even recognize some of the
games on that list, let alone regard them as classics. Luckily enough
Nintendo have promised 30 games before Christmas, so hopefully we
will see a much more solid line-up for the virtual console. I for one
would like to see some more N64 games on that list.
The menu
system allows users to search games by console, date added or
alphabetically. Which again shows how Nintendo have tried to keep it
simple. In the future I would like to see some sort of rating system,
so users can search through games based on their rankings on the
system.
When first using the system the user is presented with a green
bar, which shows that the system is connected. They then are given
the option to choose their region settings, once these are set, the
user then has to go through another upgrade, after which parental
settings will be set and the user has access to the on line services
offered by Nintendo.
