Nintendo have today stated that 7 million Nintendo DS consoles have been sold in Europe alone. This is a very impressive figure, by anyone's standards, and Nintendo are certainly happy with it. Nintendo have also announced that 6 games have gone past the 1 million sold mark. Nintendo's prized pet simulator Nintendogs, has managed to shift over 4 million copies, which is a tremendous figure in the video game industry. Both Dr. Kawashima’s Brain Training and Animal Crossing have managed to sell over a million copies each. Which is also a very impressive figure. What I have noticed about these titles is that they are all the innovative titles Nintendo have been pushing, since the release of the DS. The Mario Bros are also doing well on the Nintendo DS. Mario 54 DS, Mario Bros and Mario kart have all sold over 1.5 million copies. Suggesting that Mario still has a lot of life in him left. Unfortunately Nintendo's good news has also been overshadowed with reports of Wii failures. There have been a number of reports appearing on the Internet saying that the recent update by wiiconnect24 (The service that keeps the Wii connected to the Internet, even in stand-by), have broken Wiis. Nintendo are dealing with this in the usual manner, they will replace Wiis free of charge. This process however could take up to two weeks, not too great if you had already spent ages waiting for the Wii in the first place. Of course this only applies to a small amount of consoles, not all of the consoles that got the update were effected. The failure apparently shows up as an unfriendly error code on the screen. This is hardly a very impressive first update on Nintendo's part, but errors on launches of consoles are very common, and this is not the first we have seen, neither will it be the last we shall see. However with all the next-gen consoles now on the market, hopefully it will be a while before we do see any again. |
