Last month in Japan the Nintendo Wii outsold its rival PlayStation 3 on a scale to 5 to1. Sony's game division also posted an operating loss of up to 232 billion yen which equates to about $1.91 billion. In May Sony sold 45,321 units of thePS3. Nintendo on the otherhand sold 251,794 units of the Wii. This is an increase from the month of April where the ratio was at 4 Wii's to every 1 PS3. Reasons for this massive sales gap includes Sony's high price tag of $600 and their lack of high interest games. KBC Securities analyst Hiroshi Kamide says, "If there were half a dozen
good titles people wanted to play on the PS3, I'm sure it would
actually be doing quite well." In the next business year, Sony is aiming to up the PS3 sales to11 million units from 5.5 million that they sold this year. In America, the Wii became the top selling console for the fourth month in a row selling 360,000 units, while Sony sold 82,000 units of the PS3 and Microsoft sold 174,000 Xbox 360 machines.
