About Blackthorne
Years before the game begins, Stonefist, the capital of the kingdom of Androth, was attacked by an army of monsters. They were the Ka'dra'suul's army, monsters from the neighbor kingdom to the south. King Vlaros was killed by Sarlac, the leader of the Ka'dra'suul, but Kyle, his son and the game's protagonist, survived the attacks, having been sent to Earth by Galadril. There, Kyle grew and became a top-military soldier.
He was also given the lightstone, for without it, there was no hope to overcome Sarlac. Many years later, he was contacted by Galadril, who told him his story and brought him back to the world of Tuul. At this point, the game takes place..
I Loved It
If you haven’t played this game yet, you have no idea what you’re missing! This game is, in my unofficial opinion, one of the greatest games to come out on the SNES. It combines action, puzzle solving, a good story line and great music and graphics to make Blackthorne a awesome title worth playing again and again. Here’s the breakdown.
The story behind this game is pretty well developed I’d have to say (it takes up half of the instruction manual!), and the game flows smoothly from beginning to final destination. An ex army officer is transported to a different world where he learns his father, the king, was slain by the evil Sarlaac, and his people, the Androthi, have become slaves in their own kingdom. It’s up to Blackthorne to kill off the evil orc-like Kadrasul and free his buddies. The concept seems a little bizarre at first, but you actually find yourself struggling to rescue your comrades from perilous encounters as you delve deeper into the story, and by the time you finish the game, you’ll feel a great sense of satisfaction. I loved the ending too, and that always helps.
