ABC's Monday Night Football Description

ABC Monday Night Football is an American football computer game named after the television broadcast of the same name.

It was licensed by ABC Sports, but did not obtain an NFL or NFLPA license, and as such contains made-up teams, such as the Indianapolis Rays and the Miami Sharks. Its controls and gameplay were sub-standard even for its time, and was eclipsed by the far superior Madden Football series by Electronic Arts.

Rating 3 About ABC Monday Night Football

ABC Monday Night Football is a game with some really fun points, but yet one with a number of problems that make this game unenjoyable on the whole. While on its own, it would be a manageable game, when given the choice between this game and Madden football games, this one clearly comes in behind the more popular series.

Like most football games, you have the ability to play a preseason or a regular season series of games. You also have the option of playing two player versus games. There is some ability to edit a playbook giving you some customizability to the game. But while the game setup is on par with other games, the on field and in game management is less than stellar.

In chosing plays to run, you can only select from 10 plays, many of which are not very clear. Once a play is selected, and you are running the field, there are not many moves you can use to dodge or trick our opponent. A simple burst of speed or diving is about all you get - no juke moves or stiff arms. This makes running plays very difficult to use successfully. On defense the options are just as limited. And what makes it frustrating is there is the added factor that a wide open reciever often drops the ball...

The most disappointing part to this game is that the stat keeping is not great... and because of the lack of license from the NFL, the teams are the right cities and colors, but not correct on the team logos or names... or the names of players.
Rating 13 MPH football just isn't very fun

When people think of football, they most likely think of soccer, unless of course they live in America. When an American thinks of football, he thinks of high speed action packed tackling extravaganza. So why Data East decided to make a football game where the characters can only run 3 MPH is beyond me, but they did.

"The title screen has some festive colors."

When you first start the game, you're presented with a beautifully FMV rendered menu of a man talking, which is looped. From there, you get to choose from thousands of popular fooball teams, then even get to toss a coin to decide who defends/receives. By then you're expecting this to be one amazing little game, which unfortunately takes a terrible turn for the worse.

"The field is Gatorade sponsored, which probably drew a few people into this game."
