About Breath of Fire
The second Breath of Fire title continues the story of Ryu, a Dragon morphing young hero who must go on a new quest to find his missing father and little sister. Along the way he will meet up with 8 other characters, each with their own set of skills and powers that will help you discover the truth behind the mystery.
There are plenty of magic spells to use against a host of enemies. In the GBA version, you can use a link-cable to link to a friends and exchange weapons and items to defeat the higher evils. And with the inclusion of the community system, you can build and maintain your own city while you are fed up of exploring.
One of the best RPGs
Ah! Breath of Fire II, the first rpg I ever bought, after playing Mystic Quest I got so hooked with the rpg genre that I wanted to play another one very badly, when I went to the shop the only rpg I found was Breath of Fire II, it looked quite similar to Mystic Quest so I bought it.
But don’t think I adore this game so much because it was my second rpg, I am writing this “attempt” of review a lot of years after having played, and now that I have played most of the rpgs around there, I can still say that this one of the most memorable.
A million times better than the first one, with good twists, more events, and, well too good to be comparing. What I liked the most about it is the ending, very beautiful and highly emotive, if you have already played Breath of Fire III then probably you already know (this game’s story is continued in the third installment), but if you haven’t be sure to play this one first.
Masterpeice
Breath of Fire 2 is a rather controversial game, filled with corrupt churches and rather evil clergymen. The game has snappy graphics and likeable characters.
The game begins (after a lengthy intro as an 8 year old) with the main character, Ryu and his best buddy Bow (a strange dog-like creature) newly accepted into the hunters guild. They want to go on their first mission, to prove themselves as Hunters. At first not accepting the first offer - a somewhat insulting quest to retrieve a pet pig - they quickly relent once Bow gets a look at the beautiful young girl who has lost her favorite animal! And so begins an epic quest. From this small start you will travel around the world, ride in some rather odd vehicles (a whale and a flying town amongst them) and experience a very surreal game.
The storyline slowly builds up pace, which I find is a rather admirable quality. Most games outline the Big Bad Guy almost straight from the beginning, but this game holds back, and it is not until nearly halfway through that the characters really start to find out just how bad things are. It tackles some more mature issues, such as a corrupt church and the effects that has on the people, a definite plus for any game.
