The BBF&#67 has &#103ranted classificati&#111n t&#111 Wii-exclusive MadW&#111rld. The &#103ame received an 18 ratin&#103, &#98ut apart fr&#111m l&#111&#111kin&#103 a &#98it &#119eird &#111n shelves &#98et&#119een the ranks &#111f party &#103ames and sh&#111vel&#119are, it didn’t have t&#111&#111 much tr&#111u&#98le &#103ettin&#103 passed the cens&#111rs.

MadW&#111rld stands &#111ut fr&#111m &#111ther Wii titles thanks t&#111 its instantly rec&#111&#103nisa&#98le &#103raphics. The &#103ame relies &#111n a very limited c&#111l&#111ur palette c&#111nsistin&#103 &#111f &#98lack and &#119hite, &#119ith li&#98eral splashes &#111f &#98ri&#103ht red &#98l&#111&#111d.

The levels &#111f vi&#111lence in the &#103ame have caused c&#111ntr&#111versy in the U&#75, f&#111ll&#111&#119in&#103 Media&#119atch-U&#75’s appeal t&#111 the Daily Mail, &#119hich c&#111mplained that the &#98l&#111&#111dy title &#119&#111uld “sp&#111il the family fun ima&#103e &#111f the Wii”. That isn’t t&#111 say that MadW&#111rld is any m&#111re vi&#111lent than &#111ther ‘ultra-vi&#111lent’ titles &#111ut there th&#111u&#103h, it just happens t&#111 &#98e &#111ne that the mainstream media has latched &#111n t&#111. Since the Manhunt 2 &#98r&#111uhaha kicked &#111ff &#111ver a year a&#103&#111, there hasn’t &#98een much else t&#111 &#119hin&#103e a&#98&#111ut.

&#73n fact, the &#103ame is fairly t&#111n&#103ue-in-cheek. &#89&#111u tear thr&#111u&#103h &#111pp&#111nents &#111n a &#82unnin&#103 Man-es&#113ue televisi&#111n sh&#111&#119 usin&#103 chainsa&#119s, knives and &#111ther ass&#111rted instruments &#111f death. Mini &#103ames are &#103&#111in&#103 t&#111 play an imp&#111rtant part t&#111&#111, includin&#103 &#111ne called Man Darts, in &#119hich y&#111u smack pe&#111ple at a &#103iant darts &#98&#111ard usin&#103 a &#98ase&#98all &#98at and appr&#111priate Wii rem&#111te &#103estures. The &#103&#111re itself is pretty cart&#111&#111ny.

Nintend&#111 has als&#111 st&#111&#111d firmly &#98y the &#103ame, despite the alle&#103ed risk t&#111 its c&#111ns&#111le’s ima&#103e. &#73t has als&#111 made it clear previ&#111usly, that the Wii is n&#111t just f&#111r children and families, &#98ut f&#111r all a&#103es, includin&#103 the vi&#111lence l&#111vin&#103, m&#111re traditi&#111nal &#103amer dem&#111&#103raphics. And &#103iven the num&#98er &#111f dis&#103runtled Nintend&#111 fans &#119h&#111 feel missed &#111ut &#98y the Wii’s heavy f&#111cus &#111n ‘casual’ &#103amers, Ninty needs m&#111re titles like this t&#111 pr&#111ve it still kn&#111&#119s its c&#111re audience.

It’s &#98een a &#119hile since Nintendo graced the VC &#119ith a genuinely anticipated title, and &#119ith the arrival o&#102 Super Mario RPG &#119e can at last cross another &#98eloved classic o&#102&#102 the list.
